Tips for Preparing for Your Move

Are you preparing to move? If so, you’re like millions of others who are getting ready to ship across state lines, or even just down the road. We’re Texas Elite Moving — a company providing Texas-native moving services to the good people of the Lone Star State since 2013. We’ve seen a lot in our time as a moving service, so take it from us: it’s good to be prepared before your move. Here are four ways we recommend you prepare for moving.

Packing

One of the most important parts of preparing for a move is packing. Start early and take your time — it’s better to do a little bit each day than try to do it all in one day. When packing, make sure you label each box, so you know what’s in each one. This will make unpacking much easier. Use strong packing materials, such as bubble wrap and packing peanuts, to protect your items. Also, make sure you use the right-sized boxes – too large of a box can make it difficult to move and too small of a box can cause items to be damaged.

Paperwork and Documentation

Make sure you have all the necessary paperwork and documents in order before you move. This includes things like driver’s licenses, birth certificates, marriage certificates, Social Security cards, and bank statements. Also, make sure you have proof of address, such as utility bills or a lease agreement. This will make the transition to your new home much easier.

Utilities

Before you move, make sure that you turn off the utilities at your current home and transfer them to your new address. This includes things like gas, electricity, water, and the internet. You’ll also want to make sure that you’ve made arrangements for garbage removal at your new address.

Review Moving Companies

If you’re using a moving company, make sure you research the company and read reviews. Ask for a list of references and make sure that you get a detailed estimate of the cost of the move. You’ll also want to confirm the date of the move and make sure that all of your belongings are insured during the move.

Moving can be a stressful and overwhelming experience, but with proper planning and preparation, it can be much easier. By following these tips for preparing for your move, you can ensure that the transition to your new home is as smooth and stress-free as possible. Good luck with your move!
